The nickel jar...

There's a new addition to our counter here at Lulu & Tutz! It's a nickel jar! It seems there was a "phrase of the day" yesterday while mom was here working for us. It went something like this...."I bet you wish you had a nickel for everytime someone comes in here and says 'I remember when we had one of these!'" So, she decided to start a jar of nickels for everytime someone comes in reminiscing of their childhood! By the end of the day there were a handful of nickels in the jar! While we have both new and old things in the shop, it's the vintage items that cause people to stop and "remember when..." The 1950's stove I picked up alongside the road takes people back to "their first apartment right after we got married"... The old box tv from the 50's brings back memories of rolling pictures, handmade antenaes, and family-friendly shows... And, the 1960's cottage dining set brings to mind another era when families actually sat around the table eating together... Thankfully we are not completely tied to the past....let's face it, not too many of us would give up our microwaves! We've had fun finding new items from companies like Typhoon and Moda that look like they could have been in the family for generations. But, some of our favorite parts of the day are listening to many stories of generations gone by, as our customers reminisce while they shop. A couple of generations ago, a jar full of nickels would have bought alot more, maybe a trip to the movies or a burger at the local drive-in ...but it's enough today that it holds a lifetime of memories from a whole lot of people!
